Immersed in the lush Umbrian countryside, this peculiar complex is a perfect reproduction of a fortified medieval hamlet, castle-shaped, carefully and sympathetically constructed with a thorough use of traditional materials. The complex is situated in a very favourable position in the neighbourhood of Piegaro, 4 Km from the village of Castiglion Fosco, halfway between Rome and Florence, on the border between Umbria and Tuscany and close to important tourist attractions such as Assisi, Perugia, Todi, Orvieto, Città della Pieve, Chiusi, Siena , Arezzo, Chianciano and Cetona.
Poggio di Sotto, the complex, rises at 600 m above the sea level ad borders on two characteristic “borgo” complexes (named “Poggio di Sopra” and “Poggio di Mezzo”), distant some hundred meters and made up of various stone-houses, recovered or newly built. Isolated, untainted, the entire complex stands in a huge area (measuring hundreds of acres) rich in woods and trails, perfect for trekking and relax. The fortified hamlet “Poggio di Sotto” is a castle-like complex encircled by walls and closed by two gates; in the inner courtyard of the complex, featuring a stone floor, stone-dry walls, stairs, rampant arches, flower pots, stand several stone-houses, divided into a total of 19 residential units of different shapes and surfaces. Each of the stone-houses, entirely personalised and unique in their conception and finishing, has been reconstructed paying careful attention to every minor detail; the size ranges from the smallest, with 1 bedrooms and one bathroom, to the largest, with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
All the houses have aged cotto flooring, exposed wooden beamed ceilings, independent heating, massive wooden doors with old-style handles, double glazing windows, sat TV.
Poggio di Sotto is also provided with a nice swimming pool, with a separate edifice to be used as a restaurant and with a detached a caretaker’s house.
